Os Três Pastorinhos is a gentle pastoral watercolour that recalls the three shepherd children of Fátima, Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta, who in 1917 were tending their flock when, according to tradition, Our Lady appeared to them. A great spreading tree stands over a golden field where sheep graze in the dry grass. In the distance three small figures walk the hillside with their flock, near a whitewashed farmhouse. Dry stone walls and olive trees line the slopes, and a soft, spiralling sun glows in the pale sky, a quiet echo of the “miracle of the sun” of 13 October 1917.
The artwork is framed by a delicate border of olive branches, with a cobalt blue flower in each corner.
It’s a meaningful keepsake for pilgrims returning from Fátima, a thoughtful gift for anyone devoted to Our Lady of Fátima and the story of the little shepherds, and a calm piece of Portuguese rural and sacred folk art for a shelf, a desk or a tile stand.
