Ribatejo

A campino rides the dirt track in his red waistcoat, the long pampilho across his saddle, walking a black bull along the lezíria. Behind them the Tejo runs wide and slow past the flat flooded fields, one sailing boat out on the water and vineyards on the far bank. Tall reeds and pink wildflowers crowd the foreground.

Fado Gato is asleep along a branch of the tree above the track, well out of the bull's way. Of every region in the collection, this is the one where he chose the high ground.
