Your Camino Photo on a Portuguese Tile

Everyone comes back from Santiago with one photo that says it all. The square in front of the cathedral. The friends you walked with. The path on a misty morning. You, holding your Compostela.

Caminho Portrait on a Tile turns yours into a blue and white azulejo, inside one of three borders our design team created for the Camino. You see the finished design before you order, and the tile is made to order in Porto.

How It Works

1. Choose your border
Select one of our three Camino borders: Compostela, O Caminho or Pedra.

2. Upload your photo
Clear, well-lit photos give the best results.

3. Select Generate Artwork
Your photo is reimagined in our blue and white azulejo style, inside your chosen border. You see the design before you decide to buy.

4. Explore until you find the one you love
Try another border or another photo until one feels right. Then choose your size and order.

Choose Your Border

Compostela

Legend has it that Compostela takes its name from Campus Stellae, the field of stars, where a star led the way to the tomb of Saint James. This is the most scenic of the three borders, a watercolour of the walk itself in soft greens, rose and ochre. A village with a red-roofed church tower and cypresses sits at the top, and an oak spreads down the left side. Autumn leaves and red berries climb the right, and a yellow waymarking arrow points the way ahead, as it does on every route to Santiago. A path winds through the hills along the bottom, with a large blue and white scallop shell in the corner and a smaller one at the centre. Blue scrollwork and a fine double line hold it all together. It suits a photograph taken on the trail, a walker on a country lane, or a group at a roadside rest.

O Caminho

The Way itself. This border takes the blue and gold of the Camino de Santiago's waymarkers. A deep cobalt band carries pale blue scrolling leaves and golden four-petalled flowers. A gold scallop shell, the pilgrim's symbol, sits at the centre of all four sides, and a small flower marks each corner. Fine gold lines edge the inside of the frame. The band is slim and the colour bold, so your photograph keeps most of the tile. It suits a pilgrim on the trail, a group at the cathedral steps, or any photo you'd like to look as though it belongs on the route.

Pedra

Pedra is Galician and Portuguese for stone, and this border takes its name from the granite of the Camino's cathedral façades, wayside crosses and the waymarkers that count down the kilometres to Santiago. Deep cobalt scrolls recall carved stonework, with a scallop shell, the symbol of the Camino de Santiago, at the top and bottom of the tile and a four-petalled flower on each side. It frames a photograph of a cathedral, a waymarker, a walking group or a pilgrim's portrait.

A Gift for Someone Who Walked It

For the friend who walked it last summer, the parent who finally did it, or the two of you who walked it together. If the photo is on their phone, it is probably in the group chat already.
